Young Explorers went through the American Camping Association’s Accreditation process again this last summer. All of our camps have been accredited for seven years. Camp is not just entertainment and relaxation; it builds confidence, independence, and a sense of responsibility, community and an awareness of nature. The campers will meet new friends from all over town. They will develop social skills and patience, and learn water safety. Camp gives them field trip opportunities they might otherwise be able to experience, and informal sports they might not be able to start in their neighborhood such as sand soccer, whiffle ball, and capture the flag.
The benefits of camp extend further than just childhood development. Camp, and the experiences of camp, defines us even as adults. Camp has changed many lives, introduced people to new passions, and broadened horizons. The Crystal Lake Park District would like to share the benefits of camp message with the assistance of the American Camping Association.
