Chainsaw Carving of Tree at Main Beach - 7.21.17

Time: 9:00 AM

Location: Main Beach, 300 Lakeshore Drive

-On Friday, July 21 at 9 am, Northern Exposure will begin carving a tree at Crystal Lake Main Beach, 300 Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake. The public is welcome to watch the carving. Please be aware that the noise from the chainsaw will be loud.

This tree is no longer viable and would have been slated for removal in the upcoming playground and Main Beach renovation project beginning once the swimming area closes for the season. Instead of simply removing the tree, Ann Viger, Crystal Lake Park District Director of Planning and Development suggested incorporating the tree into redesign with a chainsaw carving, thus turning it into a work of art that can be enjoyed by beach and playground visitors. The plan is to carve a heron standing on the rocks but the artist is free to make changes as the work progresses, depending on the condition of the tree stump. When the park renovation work is completed next year, the carving will be close to the covered picnic area that is adjacent to the new playground.
