Crystal Lake Park District Board of Commissioners Approves 2019 Property Tax Ordinance

Sun December 22, 2019

The Crystal Lake Park District Board of Commissioners voted to approve the 2019 property tax ordinance at the regular board meeting on December 12, 2019.  As a conservative measure, and for the second year in a row, the Board levied less than the maximum, approving a 1% increase and not the 1.9% that is allowed by the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law (PTELL). The 2019 proposed levy amount is $7,695,248.    The District was able to achieve an approximate 3.68% rate reduction from the previous year and the 5th rate decrease in row. This ensures that the tax levy attributable to the Park District remains one of the lowest rates in the area.

Park Districts have a very narrow revenue stream. Property taxes account for about 50% of Crystal Lake Park District operations income. Only about 5% of a resident’s property tax bill is attributable to the Crystal Lake Park District. With the tax dollars provided, the Crystal Lake Park District offers 42 parks, numerous trails, a lake, two beaches and year round recreation programs and events.
