Crystal Lake Park District Partners with Five District 47 Schools to Offer Beyond the Bell

The Crystal Lake Park District is ready to kick off the 1st session of Beyond the Bell-a partnership with five D47 schools to provide quality recreation programs immediately after the school day has ended.  These programs are for students attending Canterbury, Husmann, Glacier Ridge, Woods Creek and West Elementary schools.  Register online at www.crystallakeparks.org or in person at the Crystal Lake Park District Administrative Office, One East Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake. Beyond the Bell Class Descriptions

INTRO TO HIP HOP at Canterbury School, GRADES 1-5, 6 Classes

Hip Hop is a great way to get moving and grooving to your favorite songs! Technique and choreography will be taught to popular kid-friendly, upbeat music that'll keep everyone dancing. Dancers will learn the dynamics of hip hop as they build their strength and endurance. Fun and creativity is what Hip Hop is all about! The best part of this class is you can go straight from your classroom right after the bell rings!

CREATIVE WRITING: SUPERHEROES! At Husmann, GRADES 2-5 6 Classes

Calling all heroes! Students will help save the day by practicing their reading and writing skills! Activities will focus around sequencing events, spelling and punctuation through creative and social projects. Come home with your very own super hero story that you can share with your family!

MIXED MEDIA ART at West Elementary,GRADES 1-5, 6 Classes

Looking for something fun and creative to do after school? Join local artist, Jennifer Lilliebridge, as you dabble in the world of Mixed-media art! We'll explore unique paint techniques, assemble colorful collages and produce some awesome art with a variety of different mediums! You'll delight in creating 3-4 finished products after this exciting six-week session. All instruction and supplies provided. If you love this class, you can continue your colorful and creative adventures with the Crystal Lake Park District in our evening/weekend classes geared for ages 10-seniors!

THEATRE 101 at Glacier Ridge, GRADES 1-5, 6 Classes

Do you want to explore the musical theater world to see if it is for you? Join Ben as he introduces you to improv, musical theater technique, acting, voice and a moment on the stage. This is a great class to see what musical theater is about and help you ease in to the larger program at the Crystal Lake Park District. Have the convenience of going straight from your classroom after school to this program!

CHESS CLUB at Woods Creek, GRADES 1–5 6 Classes

Develop your child's intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Also, chess has been proven to enhance children's motivation, concentration, focus, social skills and creativity. No previous knowledge of chess is necessary. Each class will consist of a fun interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both new and returning participants are welcome and will get to the next level under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach. There will also be a chess competition with prizes at the end of the session!
