The Crystal Lake Park District offers drop-in programming, special events, trips and weekly programs and activities for active senior adults. Registration is accepted up to the date of the program as long as space is available. Registration in advance is required, unless noted. Registration is accepted at the Crystal Lake Park District Administrative Office, located at One East Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake, or online at www.crystallakeparks.org.
Senior Center at a Glance
Stop by and visit the Grand Oaks Active Senior Center, 1401 W. Route 176, Crystal Lake. The Crystal Lake Park District is pleased to offer the following at the Grand Oaks Active Senior Center: drop-in activities, guest speakers, social clubs/dinners, trips, programs such as, arts & crafts, games, Wii Bowling, movie days, cooking, fitness, dance, Bingo and much more! The senior center is open year-round.

Trips and entertainment are listed in the brochure and on the website. Events are subject to change. A complete calendar of events may be picked up at Grand Oaks Recreation Center or the Park District Administrative Office. Registration - All programs and trips require preregistration and payment to attend. Please register at the Park District’s Administrative Office, One East Crystal Lake Avenue.
Senior Fitness Classes
Super Seniors (Ages 55 & older)
Designed for those seniors with less stamina and mobility or those just getting started in their fitness program. This class will use light hand weights, balance exercise, core strengthening on chairs and fun cardio games. A great way to keep up with your mobility and cardio.

Crystal Lake Park District Trip Policy:
In order to keep trips affordable, the CLPD co-ops with the Wauconda, Barrington, Grayslake, and Lindenhurst Park District. Departure location is dependent on numbers registered at each Park District. Every effort is made to leave for the trip from Park Place. Transportation may be in a park district van, mini-bus or motor coach. Motor coach trips are noted in the brochure. Cancellation policy: Refund will be given if the request falls before the cut-off date less the $5 service charge. If the refund request falls after the cut-off date, no refunds will be given unless a replacement is able to be found.
Grandparent/Grandchild Day Out,
Ages 5 & Up
Looking for some dun and different one on one time with your grandchild? Join us a Sterne’s Woods for an Alphabet Scavenger Hunt on our Wagon Ride through Sterne’s Woods. Upon our return, you and your grandchild will make their very own animal track from the fun and “ole time” way of the wood burning process. Following all the fun will be a boxed lunch at the shelter at Sterne’s Woods. This is a great way to bond with your grandchild while the two of you have fun doing an interesting and educational activity together. Registration deadline is June 7th. Please make your selection of ham salad, chicken salad, ham or turkey sandwich at time of registration.

Chicago Pedway & Pizza Trip,
Take a walk to see architecture of the Illinois Center Pedway. Learn how an abandoned railway freight yard was transformed into an important urban development. You’ll see some pretty and some gritty portions of the Pedway as we travel the one and a quarter mile underground passageway through what was designed as “the futuristic city within a city.” We will then re-energize with a late lunch at the famous Lou Malnati’s Pizza. Dine on garden salad, deep dish pizza and penne pasta with meat or marinara sauce. Transportation via motor coach from Barrington Park District. The CLPD bus will shuttle participants from Crystal Lake to Barrington. Registration deadline is Friday, June 1 (spaces permitting).

Lake Geneva Tour & Lunch,
Enjoy the scenic wonders of this enchanting historical glacier and is a spring fed lake; it’s a magnificent, restful experience you will forever cherish. A fully narrated leisurely cruise past the estates, many built between 1870 and 1920, will serve to remind you of past elegance. All guests will enjoy a sit down plated meal during the tour. Restrooms are on the boat and it is climate controlled, so rain or shine, we will go! (Menu will be available by May 1). After our boat trip, 1 1/2 hours will be allowed for shopping in Lake Geneva. Registration deadline is June 15th.

Lake County Libation Trail, Lake County, IL
Join us for a fun tour through Lake County exploring from beer and wine to vodka and whiskey where all are locally grown, crafted and distilled adult beverages that are designed for the most discerning tastes. Gin and vodka aficionados can learn the secrets of distilling! Our tour begins at Valentino’s Vineyard for a tour and tasting. Following the winery, we will visit Half Day Brewing for lunch and beer tasting followed by a trip to The Popcorn Factory to make your thirsty for our final stop at North Shore Distillery. Leave the driving to us and enjoy an array of spirits along the way! Registration deadline is July 1st (spaces permitting).

Antique Fashion Show & Lunch
Join us for this enjoyable, historical fashion show that is not only entertaining but educational as well! Kay Meyers has long had a love affair with treasured fashions from the past. She has been collecting vintage clothing for twelve years. During her show, she will describe the actual people who wore the clothing including humorous and interesting details which highlight each garment’s individual history from 1870-1970. Kay is in big demand all over the area for presentations and her reviews are outstanding. Wear your favorite vintage hat to add a little sparkle to the day! A boxed lunch will be provided by Honey Baked Ham including a drink, sandwich, cookie and chips. Please select your choice of ham salad, chicken salad, turkey or ham sandwich. A cash wine bar will be available as well. Raffle prizes included during the day! Registration deadline is June 25th.

Confetti Gourmet Academy brings you an afternoon Tea with seasonal flavors. Join us to experience our summer-themed menu and tea parings in this sit-down affair. Awesome Gluten Free Cooking
Chef Dave is back with his fun and informative and entertaining class! Dave has many accolades, including voted Best Caterer in the Daily Herald, attending the Dumas Pere L’Ecole de Cuisine Clunary School, studied in France with 2-star chef Michael Chabran, worked at Charlie Trotters, Ritz Carlton Hotel in Chicago and Le titi de paris and the American Club in Wisconsin before starting his own business. You will be amazed at what you can learn from him of gluten free cooking and getting the chance to eat his cooking demo while sharing his knowledge of tips and tricks to this style of cooking. Registration deadline is June 10.

This class is designed for beginner to advanced crocheters. The classes are kept small to give individual attention to all students. Even advanced crocheters need help sometimes. All you need to bring is the willingness to learn a new craft and a size G crochet hook, and we will supply the yarn. If your just having trouble with a pattern, bring it to class and we’ll get you going again.

EZ Sitting Country Line Dance
If you’ve always wanted to try line dancing, now is your chance! Don’t let anything stop you. Learn easy dances to great music while you learn the steps either sitting or holding on to the chair. Benefits include increased mental function, elevate your mood, eliminate stress and boost self-esteem all while having fun. Don’t stop dancing because you are aging, you age because you stop dancing! Active Adult Country Line Dance
Boot, Scoot and Boogie on down and learn trendy line dances in a laid-back environment designed specifically for those that want to keep moving to popular line dances and great music no matter what your age.
