Crystal Lake Park District Hosts ADA Community Meeting on January 29

Wed January 8, 2025

It is important to the Crystal Lake Park District that parks and facilities are able to be used by people of all abilities. The Park District completed a Transition Plan for existing parks and facilities in 2009, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This resulted in many accessibility improvements in parks and facilities being completed over the past several years.

The Park District has retained The W-T Group, LLC (WTG) Accessibility Practice to help complete an update to the transition plan and public feedback opportunities meet an ADA requirement as part of this process. The Park District invites feedback regarding Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance as part of the update efforts.

One of the ADA Transition Plan requirements is to seek public feedback on access priorities and preferences. This helps the District better understand what is important to the community. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 5:30 pm at the Rotary Building, 431 Walkup, Crystal Lake to share your preferences/priorities regarding accessibility.

Shelley Zuniga of the WTG Accessibility Practice will lead the meeting and review the ADA requirements for existing parks and facilities, discuss some factors other Park Districts and recreation departments have considered in setting priorities, and share some images of what the access audit teams observed at Crystal Lake Park District sites. Attendees will be asked to share information about their access priorities, helping to shape the transition plan.

Please RSVP to Jason Herbster at (815) 459-0680 x 1203 or email at jherbster@crystallakeparks.org. We look forward to learning more from your feedback at the meeting.
