Drop in Programs and Day Trips for Active Adults at the Crystal Lake Park District

The Crystal Lake Park District offers drop-in programming, special events, trips and weekly programs and activities for active senior adults. Registration is accepted up to the date of the program as long as space is available.  Registration in advance is required, unless noted.  Registration is accepted at the Crystal Lake Park District Administrative Office, located at One East Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake, or online at www.crystallakeparks.org.

Senior Center at a Glance

Stop by and visit the Grand Oaks Active Senior Center, 1401 W. Route 176, Crystal Lake. The Crystal Lake Park District is pleased to offer the following at the Grand Oaks Active Senior Center: drop-in activities, guest speakers, social clubs/dinners, trips, programs such as, arts & crafts, games, Wii Bowling, movie days, cooking, fitness, dance, Bingo and much more! The senior center is open year-round.

Senior Fitness Classes

 

Seniors in Motion - Punch Pass

Ages 55 & Up

We've got a great workout designed specifically for active older adults. During this hour long class, you will be stretching, strengthening and completing a light cardio workout while using exercise equipment, participating in fun activities and implementing various exercise techniques. To attend class, you must purchase the punch pass at the Administration Office between the hours of 8:30-5 M-F or purchase at class with a check only. Please note: doors open at 8:30 am for participants to walk before class begins at 9 am. Class ends at 10 am.

*No class 10/8. HOLIDAY HOURS TBD.

Super Senior Fitness

Ages 55 & Up

Designed for those seniors with less stamina and mobility or those just getting started in their fitness program. This class will use light hand weights, balance exercise, core strengthening on chairs and fun cardio games. A great way to keep up with your mobility and cardio. This class meets for 30 minutes/3 times a week.

*No class 10/8, 11/23.

Beanbag Baseball Tourney

Take me out to the ballgame and grab a friend or two and join us for a fun morning of playing the new Beanbag Baseball craze hitting the Grand Oaks Active Senior Center. Names will be put in a hat to form teams. Prizes in store for the winners of the tourney, drive for the pennant! Following the tourney, lunch will be provided including hotdogs, chips and drink. No experience needed, all you need to be able to do is throw a beanbag 20 feet! Registration deadline is Oct 5.

Fish Boil at Citizens Park in Barrington

Ages 21 & up
Enjoy a night filled with music by Rosie & the Rivets, dancing and of course great food from Fitzgeralds. Menu includes fish, chicken, boiled potatoes and onions, homemade coleslaw, salty rye bread and apple square for dessert.

Fair Oaks Farm

Fair Oaks, IN

Ages 18 & Up

Fair Oaks Farm is an escape to the country with acres of great food, learning, fun and an experience you will never forget! Visit the birthing center where you will see a live birth of a cow or pig. Learn about the future of farming, protecting the environment and caring for the animals while ensuring the highest quality products possible. Take a crop tour and learn how the entire facility runs on cow and pig manure! Sustainability is how they operate.

During our tour, lunch will be a buffet option of Roasted Pork Loin or Fried Chicken including Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Buttered Corn, Rolls, Coffee, Tea and a single scoop of ice cream. A visit to the gift shop to purchase some great cheese and chocolates for the ride home will be our final stop. Transportation is by the CLPD bus to the Barrington Park District where we will catch the motor coach to Fair Oaks Farm. Registration deadline is September 9 (spaces permitting).

Alan Gresik Swing Shift Orchestra and Lunch

Elmhurst, IL

Ages 18 & Up

It's 1939 and we are on the air! The 15 person Alan Gresik Swing Shift Orchestra is reminiscent of a live big band remote and will transport us back in time to a spectacular old time radio show. The Swing Shift Orchestra specialized in unique, vintage arrangements from the 1930's and 1940's and delivers fox trots, tangos, waltzes, ballads and of course swing with an authenticity and vibrancy which has not been heard since the golden age of American dance music.
