Chess Fans of all ages! Stop by Colonel Palmer House (660 E. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake) any time between 10 am-4 pm on Sat, Nov 27 and talk Chess and the World Chess Championships with us! FREE, just drop in. November 2021 marks the return of the World Chess Championship after a year of delays. Learn about the winners of the championship title, their challengers, and how the competition’s format has changed since its origins in 1886. Feel free to come by and play some Chess too. We will have boards available or bring your own board.

The Colonel Palmer House was built c.1858 by settlers Gustavus and Henrietta Palmer. Located on its original site, the home was entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Currently the home is maintained by the Crystal Lake Park District and is home to the Crystal Lake Historical Society.
