The Crystal Lake Park District organizes a variety of special events for everyone! We bring communities together with events that make lasting memories! For specific information on pricing and program dates, please view the links provided below. All one day trips and special events are also posted on our calendar of events.

----HOLIDAY NIGHT HIKE.jpgHOLIDAY NIGHT HIKE

TIER 3 RESURGENCE MITIGATION HAS REQUIRED THE PARK DISTRICT TO MODIFY THE LUMINARIA WALK.

Enjoy a beautiful night under the stars as we light a trail through our magnificent Veteran Acres. Our illuminated trails (approx. 1.3 mi) is a mixture of paved, gravel and grassy surfaces.

PARK DETAILS:

  • The Holiday Night Hike is now being offered on six separate December evenings (Dec 4 & 5, Dec 11 & 12, Dec 18 & 19) from 4:30-7:30 pm.
  • Trails were expanded to accommodate more social distancing. Note: some trails may be closed due to weather-related conditions.
  • Non-illuminated trails and other parts of the park will close at dusk.
  • Face coverings and social distancing required.

EVENT CHANGES:

  • Warming stations (campfires) will not be lit along trails.
  • Oakwoods Lodge, Rotary and Nature Center buildings will be closed.
  • Restrooms will be open at VA picnic shelter and Nature Center.
  • Hot cocoa, s'mores station and caroling are cancelled.

REGISTRATION INFO:

  • Please sign up for the evening your group plans to attend and include number of people in your group.
  • Limit of 300 persons per night (registration required to eliminate crowds.)
  • Parking and start of route can begin from either the Veteran Acres parking lot (431 N. Walkup Ave) or the Nature Center (330 N. Main Street).
  • Arrivals may be anytime between 4:30-7:30 pm. NOTE: the entire trail will take approximately 45 minutes to hike.

  • In case of inclement weather, please call 815.410.4475 or go to rainoutline.com for up-to-date cancellations.
  • Low mobility trail is located around the Veteran Acres pond. Handicap parking is located at Oakwoods Lodge, 46 E. Terra Cotta Avenue.

Ring in the holidays with this Light Up! Crystal Lake contest!

Registration Deadline: Dec 11 @ 12pm; Participants will receive a photo/video upload link. Uploads must be received by Dec 17.

Public voting takes place Dec 18-21; Winner announced Dec 22 and receives a $50 CLPD gift card! Max 20 houses - limited to houses in Crystal Lake or Lakewood

Please note: if there is any indications of compromise of the online voting system, the CLPD reserves the right to suspend the public voting and staff will select the winner.

LOCATION: ZOOM

Slip on your PJ's and grab your favorite stuffed animal, it's time to join Santa and Mrs. Claus for some bedtime stories! Santa and Mrs. Claus will be calling in over Zoom to read some books, sing some songs, and visit with all the good little girls and boys. Children will participate in interactive songs and storytelling and even have an opportunity to talk with Santa to tell him what presents they would like this year! A zoom link will be sent out via email prior to the event date.

LIPPOLD FAMILY GOLF CENTER, 1251 W. ROUTE 176

Bundle up and tee up for our first-ever Family Mini-Golf Event! Lippold Family Golf Center's miniature golf courses will be open for one day only this winter season. While playing our 18 hole course, families will complete fun challenges and win prizes! We'll be providing hot cocoa! Face coverings recommended. Registration Deadline: Jan 24

Come join the coolest volleyball event ever! Only for adults 21 and older, this event includes organized volleyball games in the snow with many breaks for hot chili and cold adult beverages (included-limited!)

Bring your friends to compete in the 4-person recreation division or if you are a competitive athlete, join the 2-person tournaments. All teams are guaranteed at least 4 games to 21 and make the playoffs too! Awards are for championship teams and a national bid will be given to the top team in each division. Registration Deadline: Feb 7. Face coverings not required while playing.

chili open

CRYSTAL LAKE/MAIN BEACH PAVILION - 300 LAKESHORE DRIVE

Our 50th Anniversary! The Chili Open features a traditional 9-hole golf tournament held on our frozen Crystal Lake! This February tournament is steeped in generations of memories. Foursomes receive some swag and a bowl of chili "to go."

Forts on the Courts

SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 2021 3-5 PM

THE RACKET CLUB - 9101 S. ROUTE 31, LITH

The Racket Club introduced its first Fort Building battle in March 2017 which turned out to be a great success! Teams made up of family and friends are given three sheets of cardboard (96 w x 48 h) and one roll of duct tape to design and build a fort of their choice. Additional materials are allowed to finish the masterpiece. This battle combines quality time, team work and creativity to ultimate heights. Prizes will be awarded to the three favorite forts.

VARIOUS PARK DISTRICT FACILITIES

Clues have been left with various Park District employees and they need your help to solve them and find all of the hidden eggs. Grab your family and join us on our quest to find the eggs hidden throughout our parks. Families will drive to various Park District facilities and complete tasks to find eggs stuffed with all sorts of goodies.

Families should register each child ($10 per child.) A map with your starting location will be sent out via email prior to the event. Registration Deadline: Mar 21.

Hosted by the City of Crystal Lake Sustainability Committee, Bike with your Neighbor showcases three fun bike routes for all ages! Stop back at Main Beach after the ride for prize drawings and a Bike Safety Rodeo hosted by the Crystal Lake Park District Police.

Concerts in the Park Series

FREE ON TUESDAYS @ 7 PM

Main Beach - 300 LakeShore Drive

Each year, the Crystal Lake Park District hosts a regional band to perform at Main Beach. Pack a dinner, pull out a blanket and enjoy a great night of free entertainment lakeside. Concerts are held on Tuesdays at 7 PM beginning June-August. Food and beverage (beer and wine) and small charcoal grills are allowed (no glass please.) In the event of inclement weather, decision to reschedule the concert will be made by 4 pm. Check status by calling 815.410.4475 ext 6.

PARKING

Please park in the following areas for concert evenings: Main Beach parking lot, grass triangle across the street from the Lakeside Arts in the Park (Dole Mansion) and South Elementary. Please do not park at the boat gate, Dole Mansion or Seminary Park.

monarchs & music

The Monarch Coalition is bringing to the beach an engaging Monarch Fair loaded with activities, games and monarch education. Buy a pollinator plant and help us repopulate the monarchs! Wander to the band shell where we will be showcasing local bands for your entertainment.

Cars filled with costumed kiddos are welcome to drive thru our Truck or Treat "parade" to receive their treats this year. Construction trucks and big earth movers will be lined up ready to greet your kids - candy distributors will be masked and gloved for your protection.

Event is free but you must register in advance for a 15 minute time period to optimize consistent spacing throughout the event.

PUZZLEPALOOZA! JIGSAW PUZZLE TOURNAMENT

Four person teams race against each other to complete the same 500 piece puzzle. Bring snacks and enjoy an afternoon with family or friends. Prizes for winners. Tables will be spaced 20 feet apart for maximum social distancing. Masks are not required at your table but will be throughout the Racket Club building.
