Waterslide Makes Big Splash with Residents
In 1931, a huge water slide was built. According to the July 2, 1931 Herald, it was one of the newest and highest in the Midwest and was built with steel construction, a material noted to be the best and safest for that time. At the water landing there was a fence enclosure to prevent swimmers and boats from getting in the way and causing an accident. According to the January 2, 1936 Herald, the Crystal Lake water slide, a huge attraction for beach goers was converted into a toboggan slide. The transformation was handled by Wm. Bruedeigam & Co and was a popular move due to the overwhelming use of the tobogganers. It was taken down in 1950.
